Organize a local discussion

An up-to-date list of events currently being organized to launch the Dominion's special report on the Olympics across Canada may be found on the Media Co-op website.

Reading articles is only the first step in understanding issues and events. What information means is determined by how we understand these things as a community.

That's not all. Getting people in the same room, talking, is the real basis for broadening a movement by which independent media will sustain its challenge to the corporate media.

Organizing a discussion doesn't have to be hard. Inviting a few friends over to screen a film, or coordinating guest speakers and booking rooms: everything counts.

It's up to you, and we can help.

How to organize a discussion:

What we can help with:

  • We can help you design promotional materials (posters, flyers).
  • Your event will be promoted via the Dominion web site, and prominently listed in all 15,000 copies of the special issue.
  • In addition to copies of the special issue, we can provide you with a selection of films to screen, to stoke discussion.
  • We can put you in touch with local speakers.

I don't want to organize the whole thing, but I want to help out!

Remember, discussions can be any size and scope. You can chat with a few friends in a living room, or have a public panel discussion that is broadcast on your community radio station.

The Dominion is a monthly paper published by an incipient network of independent journalists in Canada. It aims to provide accurate, critical coverage that is accountable to its readers and the subjects it tackles. Taking its name from Canada's official status as both a colony and a colonial force, the Dominion examines politics, culture and daily life with a view to understanding the exercise of power.
