Submit a video report

To submit a video, check out our production guidelines and tutorials below. Then join the Media Coop Video Working Group and contact us with your story idea.

You can also post your video directly to mediacoop.ca or to one of the Media Co-op locals (Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver).

Production Guidelines

Please consult our writing guidelines before submitting your video proposal.

Types of video reports:

  1. News report
    • narrative style with stock images and footage
    • use of visual aids such as maps, documents, etc.
    • duration: 3-5 minutes
    • examples: 1

  2. In-depth interview
    • studio or outdoor headshot (see ''Rule of thirds'' below)
    • duration: 3-5 minutes
    • example: 1

  3. Investigative report
    • narrative style with stock images and footage
    • use of visual aids such as maps, documents, etc.
    • duration: 5 minutes+
    • example: 1

  4. Documentary feature
    • your documentary film (or excerpt) under 15 minutes
    • duration: 5 minutes+
    • example: 1

  5. Breaking news
    • footage from an important event or announcement
    • 10 minutes max
    • example: 1
