In June, the world's most powerful heads of state will gather in Toronto with the purpose of shaping their preferred global order. The Dominion will publish a special issue on the G8 and G20 meetings and protests. So. It's been determined that Canada was sending Afghani POWs to be tortured. If true, it means that Canadian officers are guilty of war crimes.
But its also the case that Canadian soldiers are directly engaged in combat operations, undoubtedly resulting in civilian deaths. Which there is no doubt information about, but it's not available. The press seems content to repeat claims that "40 Taliban were killed" in fighting, and so on.
On another note, O'Connor seems to be on his way out, but it's significant that in a few different venues, he speculated about invading Sudan and Somalia.
Dominion Weblogs compiles the weblogs of Dominion editors and writers. The topics discussed are wide-ranging, but Canadian Foreign Policy, grassroots politics, and independent media are chief among them.
Having worked closely with the victims of oppression in Palestine and Haiti, having seen and heard for myself the ways in which powerful nations have inflicted violence and poverty upon millions of people, and having compared mainstream and independent media accounts of these crucial realities, I can affirm that it is only through independent media like The Dominion that the public will acquire the information and analysis they need in order to work toward intelligent and constructive solutions.
