These farm fields, now fallow, act as buffers to safeguard the central forest, preventing roadway contaminates and pollutants from harming it. With the current development plan, the city of Guelph plans to cover the fields with asphalt and concrete, forcing runoff into the woods and waterways, which would slowly kill the forest.
